The Galvanization Process, Step by Step

ENSOL Engineering TeamPublished 2026-02-011 min read

Hot-dip galvanising bonds a zinc coating to steel by immersion in molten zinc. Good preparation is what makes the coating adhere and last.

Surface preparation

The steel is degreased, then pickled in acid to remove rust and mill scale, then fluxed to keep the surface clean and reactive before dipping. Clean steel is essential for a sound coating.

Dipping and inspection

The prepared part is immersed in molten zinc at around 450 °C, where zinc-iron alloy layers form. After withdrawal and cooling, coating thickness and finish are inspected against standards such as IS 4759 / ISO 1461.

ENSOL's coatings are checked for thickness, including NABL-tested verification.

Frequently asked questions
